Vizada unveils dedicated offering for media organisations

Vizada has developed a dedicated mobile satcom offering for media organizations, used by leading industry references including the Dubai-based Al-Arabiya News Channel.

Vizada’s customized media offering comprises the Inmarsat BGAN mobile satellite service, providing guaranteed streaming rates of 256 kbps for live video broadcasting. This rate is due to be extended to 384kbps by mid-2009.

In addition, media organizations benefit from Vizada SolutionsTM to enhance the Inmarsat BGAN service. These include Terralink™ Interconnect and Terralink™ Data Manager for high-quality and secure data connectivity from any location in the world. Vizada also provides on-site training to reporters and correspondents, covering live broadcasting as well as trouble-shooting to enable users to become more self-sufficient during missions.

Terralink™ Interconnect offers reporters a guaranteed, end-to-end data connection over BGAN, enabling high-speed applications including live video streaming as well as videoconferencing, VoIP and store & forward. A variety of interconnection solutions – including IP-Sec, ISDN and Leased-Line - cater for media organizations’ needs in terms of security, flexibility and bandwidth.

Terralink™ Data Manager is an online management application that enables media organizations to keep closer track of data communications usage over a fleet of mobile satellite terminals. A personalized traffic profile can be set up on line per terminal or over the entire fleet to guarantee rapid and efficient transmission of images and footage. And producers know how much cost is generated by a specific story through near real time traffic monitoring.

The Dubai-based Al-Arabiya news channel has used the Inmarsat BGAN service by Vizada since 2006 and its correspondents rely on it to be the first to send news footage back to headquarters.

Vizada has provided on-site BGAN training to Al-Arabiya reporters in Dubai and will follow this up later in the year by training Al-Arabiya correspondents based in Lybia, Sudan and Egypt.

“Vizada’s BGAN service really gives me the edge over other reporters. It can be carried quickly and easily between locations and the end-to-end data connection enables me to send back footage rapidly,” said Wa’el Issam, War Correspondent, Al-Arabiya News Channel. “Inmarsat’s planned increase of the streaming rate to 384kbps will represent an important improvement to the service next year.”
